ECHOLOT at the 10th anniversary of Transformation Digital Art 2026
From 26 to 27 March, LI-MA – Living Media Art hosted in Amsterdam the 10th anniversary of Transformation Digital Art (TDA), the annual international symposium dedicated to the preservation of digital art. This two-day event brought together artists, scholars, institutions and students to share knowledge and explore innovative ways of caring for digital art. The aim was to ensure that it remains accessible and relevant in an ever-changing digital landscape.
On the second day of the symposium, Lozana Rossenova, the ECHOLOT project coordinator from TIB, presented the project at a panel titled ‘Connecting Archives, Collections and Data’. Topics discussed included infrastructure, data modelling and the use of terminology in the organisation of media art and festival archives. During the Q&A part of the panel, questions such as who decides what information is archived, who is labelled as an artist, what constitutes artwork, and how the social memory of events is preserved were also discussed.

Although ECHOLOT does not position itself as the one solution to fix all problems in the cultural heritage and media arts sector, it works together with the Cultural Heritage Cloud and the ECHOES EU sister projects. This will facilitate more nuanced access rights management. Furthermore, the case studies conducted as part of ECHOLOT’s agile development strategy will provide opportunities to trial and test data models, decision-making processes, and community engagement, including with smaller, community-run projects. This ensures that the needs of non-institutionalised cultural heritage stakeholders are also considered.
