The European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH)

The Cultural Heritage Cloud, or European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH), is a European Union initiative that provides a shared digital infrastructure for cultural heritage institutions and professionals across Europe. It offers collaboration tools, scientific resources, training and advanced digital technologies that support the digitisation, preservation and reuse of cultural heritage data.

Developed by the European Cloud for Heritage OpEn Science (ECHOES), funded by the European Commission and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Cultural Heritage Cloud brings together previously fragmented communities into a unified digital ecosystem.

ECHOES acts as the Single Entry Point (SEP) for all stakeholders of the Cultural Heritage Cloud, coordinating and integrating the outcomes of all ECCCH funded projects.

Through this coordinated effort, ECHOES is creating a digital environment where cultural heritage assets can be digitised, enriched and collaboratively analysed. This environment enables both humans and Artificial Intelligence to generate new interpretations, offering deeper insights into cultural heritage and its broader context.

A key ambition of the Cultural Heritage Cloud is the development of Digital Twins of heritage objects. These semantically rich representations allow users to interact with and enhance cultural heritage data in new ways, supporting more inclusive and scientifically informed knowledge creation.

By 2028, ECHOES will provide a unified platform integrating outputs from both European and national cultural heritage projects, complemented by a sustainability strategy and a dedicated legal entity.
